Conversations

Talking, we do it all the time. Have there been many days in your life when you didn't talk?

God has given us the ability to talk to each other so we can communicate what we think. God has also given us the ability to talk to Him. People talk about having a conversation with God. Our part of the conversation is prayer, but is it a two way thing? How does God do His part of the conversation?

The Bible.

This book is God's Word. The Bible tells us the way of salvation, how you can be rescued from the punishment of your sin. God gave us the Bible so we can hear His voice, His part of the conversation. God speaks through the Bible.

2 Timothy 3:16 defines what the Bible is. 2 Timothy 3:17 answers why you should read it. God created you and He wants to welcome you into His family, to become part of His people. The Bible tells you how you can join His family. The amazing and exciting thing is that God wants to use His people to make a difference in this world. As a member of His family God has a job for you: share His unconditional love in everything you do. When I get a job or responsibility I like to know exactly how to do it so that I get it right. That might involve training, instructions, research or practice. All of these mean I can do the job to the best of my ability. Reading God's Word ensures you are 'equipped for every good work'. When I get a job or responsibility I also like to know that the person who has given it to me, has confidence in me. God is behind you all the way. He is there to help you as you live for Him, so don't be afraid.

Let's look at some verses to see how God speaks through the Bible.

How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.

Psalm 119:103

God encourages you, just like your parents or a friend might encourage you. This verse talks about God's words, describing them as sweet. God's Word can comfort you and help you. It's great to have Bible verses on little cards or written out so that you can constantly be reminded of God's encouragement.

Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life.

Psalm 119:104

The Bible brings understanding. Got questions? Look for the answer in the Bible. If you're a child of God you should use this book as your guide to life. We understand who God is from this book.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thought and desires.

Hebrews 4:12

The Bible is not just some old history book which is outdated because it was written so long ago. God's Word is alive! God's Word is living and powerful. Don't underestimate the power of this book. God challenges us on how we are living for Him through the Bible. Are you living for Him or for yourself?

If you have music playing through headphones or your hands over your ears you won't be able to clearly hear the person talking to you. It's the same with the Bible. If you're distracted by something else or choose not to listen you won't hear God speaking. The key to hearing God's voice is to listen! To make sure I'm listening and have heard what God has said to me, I take notes and bookmark where I've read in the Bible. Bountiful Blessings has created a set of bookmarks to help you do this.

There is a choice of gold, silver or rose gold paperclips available in my Etsy shop. Use these paperclips in your Bible or notebook to remind you of what God has said to you through His Word.

After you finish reading this post I challenge you to go and read a passage of the Bible and see what God wants to say to you. Pray and ask God to help you listen and hear His voice.

Blessings,

Becky
