Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
2 Thessalonians 3:16
When you think of somewhere peaceful, what comes to mind?
Maybe sitting beside a lake, maybe up a mountain or maybe just curled up with a book on the sofa. We often talk about going somewhere to find peace but lasting peace is found in someone. Jesus is called the Lord of Peace and the Prince of Peace. Who else is better to turn to for peace than the Prince.
Our verse is from a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the Church in Thessalonica. He prayed that the people would know this peace which he had found in the Lord Jesus Christ. As a follower of Jesus you can know this lasting peace. Paul says that the Lord will give it 'at all times and in every way.' In every single situation in life you will have a peace. This is because if you have trusted Jesus as your Saviour then you know that no matter what happens here on this earth, you are going to spend eternity in Heaven. You know that God won't let you go and He is working out His perfect plan for you. The Bible also says that our human minds cannot fully comprehend this peace.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:7
This peace 'transcends all understanding' because it is not from this world but from Heaven. No matter how dark the days become, no matter how confusing things get, this peace will be there.
There is only one way to find this lasting peace. If you are still a slave to sin you will not have this peace. It is only by asking for forgiveness and believing in Jesus' death and resurrection that you can receive this peace. Turn to the Prince of Peace.
