You shine like stars in the universe, as you hold out the Word of Life.
A few summers back we stayed in the Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserve in Ireland for our family holiday. The lack of light pollution enables you to view the stars in all of their beauty. If you've ever taken the time to just stand still and look up at the stars maybe words like magnificent, fascinating, breath-taking or inspiring come to mind. These verses in Philippians tell us that's what people are like when they share God's Word.
The Word of Life is the Bible. The Bible tells the good news that Jesus came to this world to give life. If you believe that Jesus died and rose again for your sin and ask Him for forgiveness you will have eternal life in heaven.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
If you believe it, Philippians 2:16 says to hold it out - other people won't find the Word of Life if they cant' see it. That might look like telling someone or through your actions. When holding something, our arms can get tired but we're not doing this on our own. God promises to be right there with us keeping our arms up as we hold out the Word of Life.
Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
And when you hold out the Word of Life, Philippians gives the beautiful description of what you look like - 'You shine like stars in the universe'. In among the darkness of sin in the world those holding out God's Word shine brightly. They are magnificent, fascinating, breath-taking, inspiring. On holiday that summer we would often go out at the end of each day and sit, gazing in awe at the wonderful image before us. That's what it looks like when we hold out this Word of Life. People gaze in awe at our Heavenly Father because the Bible speaks of who God is and what He has done for us.
God is the creator of these amazing spectacles. He created the stars on the fourth day of creation (Genesis ch1). He is also the creator of you and you are more precious, more valuable, more special to Him than any of the stars in the sky. He loves you more than you can ever imagine. God the creator of the universe wants you to shine for Him - what a privilege!
So hold out the Word of Life shining like stars in the universe.
